Assignment 01: Exploratory Study Essay

Before I enter into the lecturer's feedback on my assignment, I'd like to brief some information about what assignment 01 is and what I have experienced throughout my journey. Assignment 01 is an essay writing about an art movement of one's choice followed by a movie review according to its influences on the art movement chosen. This assignment has set a course different to the other essays by incorporating a movie review based on the chosen art movement. I need to pin point the art movement influences in the movie and describe the meaning. It is a very mind squeezing process and I like it. For my essay, I have chosen to dwell into the art movement of Dadaism and picked an old movie, Entr'acte ( 1924) by René Clair.

Choosing an art movement is easy for me because I unknowingly used the Dada style in my composition before, but selecting a movie out of nowhere is hard. I google searched with the keyword 'Dadaism films' and I found out about this short film. After the first glance, I doubted I could decode the thoughts of past artists. Thank God, after much prayer (haha) I settled down trusting that nothing is impossible and took a bold step in venturing the unknown.

Well? I'd guess you are confused by now.

After a few views and some deep thoughts, revelations start pouring in. I was astonished at the amount of information an illogical movie contained!

This essay writing is an exciting journey for me as it is my first time reviewing an old, nonsense film. And because of this essay, I will never look at films the same way again!

Finally, after much typing, I completed my first thesis-like essay.

This week, Mr. Charles gave us some comments on our works and gave my essay a feedback with a rating of 9/10! I am so happy that I get to taste such great victory! Thank God for His peace, favor and encouragement all the way and thank you Mr. Charles for the marks as well as the assignment itself!
